Ian Somerhalder
EMA Futures Award

In 2010, actor and environmentalist, Ian Somerhalder, launched The Ian Somerhalder Foundation, which aims to educate, empower and collaborate with people and projects who positively impact our planet and its creatures. Through his role as founder and president, Somerhalder strives to create awareness for environmental and animal rights related issues, focusing specifically on the environment, creatures and clean energy initiatives.

In 2011, ISF co-partnered with the Alliance for Global Conservation to create Planet Green’s “Blue August,” a week-long series that explored the wonders of the ocean and aquatic life. Ian served as an online and on-camera guide for the documentary and traveled to Trinidad and Tobago to film the life cycle of sea turtles. Currently, ISF is working on developing its own Animal Sanctuary dedicated to misfit and outcast pets, as well as other animals.

Earlier this year, Somerhalder was awarded with the Humane Society of America’s prestigious Wyler Award for his work with animals.

Jessica Alba
EMA Green Parent Award

Jessica Alba is actively involved with charities such as Safer Chemicals Healthy Families, ONE, Habitat for Humanity, Project HOME and more. She recently cofounded The Honest Company with Christopher Gavigan, former CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World, and the author of the book by the same name. The company aims to distribute safe, non-toxic baby products for parents looking to use the best and most “honest” items on their children.

“When I became a mom, I finally became the person I am, that I always should have been. It’s the most satisfying job in the world,” Alba says. “But, it can also be overwhelming and confusing. I created The Honest Company to help moms and to give all children a better, safer start.”

In March, Rodale will publish her first book, The Honest Life, a guide to natural and non-toxic living. Continue reading
