EMA and LAUSD: GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL GARDENS

Helen Bernstein High School

Just planted this May, the garden at Helen Bernstein High School is just beginning to catch its stride. Already planted with tomatoes, roses, artichokes, and dahlias the garden will expand its array of crops during the upcoming school year. Constructed with a drip irrigation system, the garden can handle a wide variety of native plant species.

Tended by the Garden Club and set to be an educational site for the environmental science class, the fledgling garden will continue to grow as a learning center for all of Bernstein’s students and teachers.

In May 2009 the students of Helen Bernstein High School began to plant their new garden, which will flourish for years to come.

Some of the planted items are roses, green zebra tomatoes, dahlias and artichokes.
