The Environmental Media Association (EMA) Awards are presented to recognize outstanding use of environmental themes in the following categories: Television Episodic Comedy, Television Episodic Drama, Children's Animated Television, Children's Live Action Television, Movies Made for Television and Feature Film. In addition, The Turner Prize, initiated by the Turner Foundation, is presented to the writer(s) of the prime time television episode that best deals with the issue of population growth. Last year our prestigious EMA Board of Directors Ongoing Commitment Award, which honors the continuing environmental efforts of an individual, couple or series, was given to award-winning actress, Blythe Danner. For over three decades, Blythe has been an active advocate for the environment. She has encouraged recycling from as far back as the 70's and was one of the first drivers of an electric vehicle. Blythe believes in living her convictions in a solar powered home and driving to and from the set in her new all electric Toyota Rav4. She has been consistently devout in her beliefs to preserve our planet and understands the power of role modeling to get the message to the public. We were proud to present a brand new Award last year, the EMA Missions in Music Award, to the Dave Matthews Band. The Dave Matthews Band, long respected for their environmental commitment, was on tour last year with their "One Sweet Whirled" campaign. This campaign not only used music to educate and motivate the public on environmental issues, but benefited national environmental organizations as well. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. was the Presenting Sponsor of the Twelfth Annual EMA Awards, held in Los Angeles on November 20, 2002. Toyota's commitment to future technology is nothing less than extraordinary. With over 100,000 of the wildly popular Toyota Prius (electric/gas) cars on the road in 2002, the Prius is proving to be the first successful mass-produced hybrid vehicle. We were also proud to feature their all-electric SUV, the RAV4. As a corporation, Toyota's attention to environmental concerns is stellar. Other event sponsors included: bp solar, LADWP, Whole Foods Market, Aveda, Organic Valley, Bonterra Vineyards, Earthbound Farm, Guess?, Inc., Walnut Acres and Ben & Jerry's. In addition, to celebrate our environmental message, we continued our tradition of serving an organic, gourmet meal prepared by premier Los Angeles chefs: Susan Feniger & Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill and Ciudad), Mark Peel & Nancy Silverton (Campanile), Suzanne Tracht (JAR), Joe Miller (Joe's), Kimberly Sklar (Lucques), Christopher Blobaum (Surf and Sand Resort) and for our vegan guests, Ann Gentry (Real Food Daily) and Jean Francois Meteigner (La Cachette). They all worked together with food donated from Whole Foods Market. Our celebrity chefs "cooked" in stations amidst our amazing and unique, three room environmental Silent Auction. We continued our reputation with an event atmosphere that was not only hip and fun, but educational and inspiring. The Environmental Media Association is a non-profit 501(c)3.
EMA's mission is to mobilize the entertainment industry in
a global effort to educate people about environmental issues
and inspire them into action. |
