HOV Access Program Extended!

Good news for fuel-efficient drivers: Governor Schwarzenegger signed CA SB 535 on August 30th to extend the current yellow sticker HOV access program to next July 2011! This program also increases access for additional plug-in hybrids starting in 2012. New models of the Toyota Prius as well as other vehicles will be eligible.

The growing program will now allow for 40,000 more stickers to be issued. These stickers permit qualified vehicles to drive in the carpool lane with single occupant drivers. The current expiration date is the end of 2014, but there's a chance it could even extend into 2015 if more stickers become available.

The SB 535 measure is separate from the white sticker program that covers electric, natural gas, and fuel cell vehicles. Fortunately, there is no cap on the number of stickers available for those alternative autos.

So, go green or join the gas-guzzlers in gridlock!

IRON HORSE 2005 OCEAN RESERVE
TO MAKE WAVES AT THE EMA AWARDS

Iron Horse 2005Iron Horse Vineyards is launching a vintage sparkling wine called Ocean Reserve in partnership with National Geographic at The 20th Annual EMA Awards. The wine is a 2005 vintage Blanc de Blancs designed by Iron Horse with Washington D.C. chef Barton Seaver, Esquire 2009 Chef of the Year, now a National Geographic Fellow and champion of sustainable seafood.

Iron Horse is contributing $4 a bottle to help establish Marine Protected Areas and support sustainable fishing practices around the world. "The flavors are bright, crisp, and exciting, expressing Iron Horse's proximity to the ocean," says Iron Horse CEO Joy Sterling. "It really speaks to how the ocean affects the special taste and quality of our sparklings."

Iron Horse is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery in the aptly named Green Valley, a special growing region that lies entirely within the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, California, 13 miles from the coast. They are best known for their sparkling wines, which have been served at the White House for five presidential administrations beginning with the Reagan Gorbachev Summit Meetings ending the Cold War.

To date, early adopters of Ocean Reserve include renowned chefs Eric Ripert from Le Bernardin in New York, Rick Moonen of RM Seafood in Las Vegas, Shinsei Restaurant in Dallas, select Whole Foods stores in California, Texas, Louisiana and Florida, and Lindblad Expeditions' cruise ships.
