In the open air of a crisp October night, the back lot of Warner Bros. Studios played host to the 21st Annual Environmental Media Awards. As always, the show and after-party were accentuated with environmental messaging, sustainable food and Hollywood heavy-weights including one of the world’s greatest entertainers – Justin Timberlake, who charmed the crowd with his inspirational and hilarious speech while receiving the EMA Futures Award.
Nearly 1000 guests attended the Toyota and Lexus sponsored event hosted by Entourage stars Emmanuelle Chriqui, Perrey Reeves and Constance Zimmer. Other celebrities in attendance included Ed Begley, Jr., Valerie Bertinelli, Frances Fisher, Daryl Hannah, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, Nick Offerman, Carter Oosterhouse, Aubrey Plaza, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Nicole Richie, Kyra Sedgwick, Amy Smart, Madeleine Stowe and Emily VanCamp along with the cast of Revenge. A Fine Frenzy opened the show with an exciting performance to get the evening started.
The annual EMA Awards show and gala celebrate environmental achievement throughout the entertainment and corporate industries. In addition to Justin Timberlake, EMA was thrilled to honor Marc Nathanson, PGA Green and Southern California Edison for their unyielding commitment to the environment. And, for the first time ever, the show was streamed live on Livestream.com and the EMA Facebook page.
After the ceremony, guests roamed New York Street visiting our sponsors and collecting fantastic eco-friendly gifts. Guests also bid on environmentally themed silent auction items with all proceeds going to EMA. Delicious organic cuisine was enjoyed from our celebrity chefs and restaurants: AN Catering and Tiato, Border Grill, Chaya Brasserie, The Churchill, Locanda Del Lago, Pace, Pazzo Gelato, Real Food Daily, The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards, Susan Feniger’s STREET, Schulzies Bread Pudding and Yamashiro. Special thanks go out to everyone who helped make the evening such a huge success!
EMA doesn’t just recognize sustainable productions throughout the entertainment industry, we also keep our own productions environmentally responsible as well. The 2011 Environmental Media Awards was the most eco-friendly event to date. Besides being a completely water bottle-free event thanks to our good friends and partners at Brita FilterForGood, green initiatives included:
- Compostable serviceware and reusable glassware.
- Chef stations used local, seasonal and organic food whenever possible.
- Leftover food was donated to homeless shelters via the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition.
- Green fashion worn by presenters and guests alike.
- Special Toyota hybrid lane valet for alternative fuel vehicles.
- Waste Management handled recycling/composting and developed a new technology that processed food waste to produce low carbon transportation fuel (LNG or CNG).
In addition to our Presenting Sponsors, Toyota and Lexus, we would like to thank sponsors Brita FilterForGood, Earthbound Farm, entwine, KB Home, LAcarGuy Family of Dealers, Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Patrón Spirits Company, Plant With Purpose, Scripps Networks, Southern California Edison, Star Waggons, Stila, Tiffany & Co., Ultimat Vodka, VeeV Açaí Spirit and Eel River Brewing Co.
Our heartfelt thanks also go out to Hillary Harris and the entire Special Events team at Warner Bros. Studios for their incredibly hard work. Thank you to the EMA Board of Directors, Young Hollywood Board, Corporate Board, sponsors and guests for making the 21st Annual EMA Awards a night to remember!
